Guidelines

Who can apply for this funding?

To qualify for a grant, groups must:
•be local
•contribute to regeneration or improving people’s quality of life
•give value for money

What kind of activities can Sport Relief support?

In order to qualify for a Sport Relief grant, you must meet one or more of the following two criteria. These are listed under themes and include examples to help explain them:

(a) THEME: Feeling of being left out

Criteria: Increasing access to sport and exercise for people who face social exclusion and isolation.

Examples:
• A group of Asian women getting involved in keeping fit or other sports activities
•A girls’ or women’s football team, providing taster sessions, coaching and 5-a-side competitions
•Access to sports that people from deprived backgrounds would not normally experience, e.g. rowing, tennis, golf.
•A group of disabled people wanting to undertake sport, or a club wanting to increase sporting opportunities for disabled people
•A bowling club wanting to extend its activities to provide short mat bowling to older people in an area
•Movement to Music classes for older people

(b) THEME: Having problems in your life

Criteria: Helping people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives to regain their confidence and self-esteem.

Examples:
•Women’s refuges wanting to undertake sport or exercise with the women and/or their children
•People with mental health problems wanting to help rebuild their lives through sport
•Refugees or asylum seekers using sport to help cope with traumatic experiences
•Positive sport activities for children with behavioural problems
•Using sport to aid recovery from substance misuse

Sport Relief cannot support:

•Individuals
•Statutory organisations (such as schools)
•Trips abroad
•Mini buses
•Building costs or access adaptations to buildings

How much can you apply for?

Applications are invited for small grants of £1000. In exceptional circumstances, a larger grant may be considered.
