Grassroots Grants
The government has launched a £130 million Grassroots Grants programme aimed at small voluntary and community sector groups in England. The programme has two elements: Grassroots Grants small grants and Grassroots Grants endowment match challenge.The East End and City Consortium, led by St Katharine & Shadwell Trust, was selected to manage the Grassroots Grants programme in four top tier London boroughs: City of London, Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets.
It is a three-year programme running from 2008 - 2011 providing much needed funding to very small community and voluntary groups and organisations.
It is funded by Office of the Third Sector (OTS) and administered by the Community Development Foundation (CDF).
Grassroots Grants endowment match challenge
Grassroots Grants supports the Government’s commitment to building a giving society.
The challenge for the Trust is to raise £667,117.52. OTS will match every £1 raised with £1, bringing the total to £1,334,235.00. This will provide grants to small groups now and in the future.

Grassroots Grants small grants
Over £1.3 million will be distributed in small grants in these four boroughs over the next three years.
