Grassroots Grants

The government has launched a £130 million Grassroots Grants programme aimed at small voluntary and community sector groups in England. The programme has two elements: Grassroots Grants small grants and Grassroots Grants endowment match challenge.

The East End and City Consortium, led by St Katharine & Shadwell Trust, was selected to manage the Grassroots Grants programme in four top tier London boroughs: City of London, Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets.

It is a three-year programme running from 2008 - 2011 providing much needed funding to very small community and voluntary groups and organisations.

It is funded by Office of the Third Sector (OTS) and administered by the Community Development Foundation (CDF).

Grassroots Grants endowment match challenge

Grassroots Grants supports the Government’s commitment to building a giving society.

The challenge for the Trust is to raise £667,117.52. OTS will match every £1 raised with £1, bringing the total to £1,334,235.00. This will provide grants to small groups now and in the future.

The Trust has to raise:

£133.423.20 by Sept 2009

£266.847.01 by Sept 2010

£266.847.01 by Sept 2011

Grassroots Grants small grants

Over £1.3 million will be distributed in small grants in these four boroughs over the next three years.

What you can do

The Trust is asking individuals and businesses to help us meet the endowment match challenge.

If you are an individual and a UK taxpayer, then we can more than double your donation with Gift Aid, so a donation of £1,000 from you instantly becomes £2,500!

Donation example:

DonationGift Aid 25%Match FundTotal Value of donation
£100£25£125£250
£1,000£250£1,250£2,500
£5,000£1,250£6,250£12,500
£10,000£2,500£12,500£25,000

Donations from non-UK taxpayers and businesses will be worth double the amount, so a donation of £5,000 is worth £10,000.

With a donation of £25,000, anyone can set up a named fund that will be worth £50,000.

If you are interested in taking part in the challenge, please contact the Trust Director, Jenny Dawes, on 020 7782 6962.

Alternatively, you can email us on enquiries@skst.org.
