Getting down to grassroots

January 2009

The Trust held an informal reception, 'Getting Down to Grassroots', to promote the new grants programme ‘Grassroots Grants’ for the London boroughs of the City of London, Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets. This was held on Wednesday 28th January 2009 at Trinity House in the City of London, with a range of guests from local community groups, private companies, local authority and public sector organisations.

Keynote speaker was businessman and philanthropist, Stanley Fink, who is the Chief Executive of International Standard Asset Management.

Mansell Street Women’s Group, the first group to get a grant from Grassroots Grants in the City of London, were there and so was a representative of Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre, the first ever recipient of a grant from the Trust.

Grassroots Grants is a three-year programme offering small grants of up to £5,000 to small voluntary and community sector organisations and groups . It includes an Endowment Match Challenge, offering a opportunity to secure funding to provide small grants in the future.
