The young person’s grant making arm of the Trust, YouthBank Tower Hamlets, evolved in part from an exercise to motivate young Bengali school leavers in Wapping. They were offered training in photography, printing and developing and provided with inexpensive cameras.

When the Prince of Wales saw the results of the exercise at an exhibition in Shadwell, he suggested they were good enough to make a book. With the assistance of design students from London Guildhall University, a small but highly praised volume was produced and sold through local outlets.
